Nvidia released a driver update that's supposed to smooth out performance on Starfield. Let us know how it goes Woody
Wow, man. I really appreciate you pointing this out. Not only was I not using Game Ready drivers, but I was using an old version of the Studio drivers from who knows when. I installed that latest Game Ready driver from yesterday, and it made a huge difference. Before on the old drivers, I was hitting anywhere from 54-60fps. It was pretty normal for it to be dipping down to 54fps. I installed this and turned Vsync off, and now I'm getting anywhere from 88 to 110fps. With Vsync on, it never goes below 60fps. (I still need to get a TV with VRR).

Thanks again, man. That helped a ton. I can't believe I was using that old of a Studio driver. I never think to upgrade it.
No problem. Glad I could help

I've uninstalled the game, takes up a lot of space and I think I'll just wait until the modding community is more mature.

I tried to manually uninstall the old DLSS mod and install a DLSS 3 mod with frame generation, and now the game won't load, no matter what I do. So now I'm reinstalling the game. :(

Ouch. I can only assume that worked, right?

That's strange man, I did the exact same thing and it worked fine. Hopefully you got it sorted out.

Yeah, I got it working again. And in the process of redownloading and installing that huge game, I figured out the problem. I probably could have gotten it working without reinstalling. I was using the original DLSS mod without frame generation, and I got rid of that and installed the one from LukeFZ that has frame gen. That mod crashed my game. I just needed to make sure all the files it included were deleted. Before I reinstalled, there were a couple of files I didn't get deleted, so it kept not working.

It's a bummer because my previous high frame rates didn't last. I was back down to 52-60fps. I was hoping the frame gen would help, but it just crashed my game for some reason. Oh well. I ended up just reinstalling the other mod. I set the scaling to 67%, which they say is equal to the quality DLSS mode, and that took it back up above 60fps.

I'm done fiddling now. I'm just going to play the game.

I found out Bethesda is actually working on implementing DLSS in an upcoming update. I'm sure their official implementation will be better than the DLSS 2 mod I'm using. If they're working on that, plus a lot of other things, I'm seriously considering playing another game for now and giving them time to work their bull crap out.
