Re: Switch 2 is iterative improvement, launching at $400
There are more and more rumors that Microsoft may end up getting out of the hardware business and just become a multiplat game publisher. They're still nothing but rumors, but the way things are going, they seem fairly plausible. If that happens, Sony will be the only powerbox console with no competition. It would be a great time for Nintendo so slide back into that arena. I don't believe they'll do it, but it's possible the opportunity might become available.

If the new rumor is true about it being more of a Switch Pro, with Switch graphics running in 4k, then it's just going to be a WiiU all over. They say it will use joycons again, it will have a usb-c port again (meaning no external gpu), and it will be focused on backwards compatibility with Switch accessories. Just call it Switch HD because it isn't sounding like a new system.

It would be a really dumb move of Nintendo to not make it fully backwards compatible with the Switch.
1080p screen and 4K in docked is more than enough for me. I just want social features like Streetpass back.
Interested to see how the new magnetic joy-cons will look like and work.

Only really dumb if they compromise the hardware to ensure compatibility... Although.. That would go against Nintendo's current policy to re-release all their old games BUT put the word DELUXE at the start and then sell them for full price..
The name and marketing it as a new system will be the key (and not screw it up like they did with the WiiU)

It's good that he warned people ahead of time just to keep people's heads from exploding when they don't announce it. Well, at least now we know that they do have something in the works to announce within a year.

I'm not certain what this does. Now instead of endless articles about the possible successor to the Switch, there will be endless articles about what will be in the announcement about the successor to the Switch later this year. The only thing I can take away from this is... well, nothing.
I think there is hope. Nintendo was in this position before with the Wii, which was wildly successful. Granted, the Wii had better overall demand from non-gamers, but they did have a tremendous system and they followed up with what was a great idea for a beta system that needed for time for tech to develop... released as a ready for prime-time system. The Switch has been ridiculously successful. They managed to get people to buy smaller versions of it too! So with the failure of the WiiU, I think Nintendo will aim better with the successor. They just need to be able to manage affordable technologies for a mobile system with great graphics and available power storage / heat dissipation.
Success is always a double edged sword, because you need to follow it up, and satisfy people that want something new that is familiar.

Nintendo can be very hit and miss there, going by their history!
As long as they come up with something that's a worthy successor, and don't screw up the name and marketing (looking at my beloved WiiU), they'll do well..
..If they don't then they need to throw in the towel and go multi-plat.

Now people are saying that they won't announce it until March 2023 but I don't think I believe that
All the reliable rumors seemed to say Nintendo was targeting Q4 2024 for a release, but then we got word that they wouldnt be able to make that deadline so they had to push to Q1 2025. I'm hoping they still make a March release like the Switch did
