Personally I believe political discussions in a democracy should be more public than private, but given the history here that’s why I think it’d be fine if it were private. I also think we’re so far advanced in this community I don’t think anybody is making any new friends or enemies having a hidden board

It also exists already and has posts in it and so far no one has been harmed so we’ll see how it goes. Obviously at this point we don’t need more problems, so it’ll get the axe if it even begins to look like it’ll cause problems

So is it a mod-only board, or what?

I do want to make a suggestion, though. If you do make it public, and it's possible, make it so that it doesn't show up with the "Unread posts" feature. That's how I navigate the forum. I don't ever click in subforums. I just click on unread posts and see what's new. If people are used to doing that, they can't really shield themselves from the political posts if they show up.

You basically have to specify that you want to be part of it, sort of like opt-in for it or say sign up for it. It's a special group, so you likely need special perms in order to see it. That way there can be political threads on the forums for the ones that want it and indulge in it, and for the ones that don't it'll be like it never exists (unless they get an admin to add them to it)

I understand the scepticism, and to a degree I too share that sentiment, however this will only be viewable for those who want to participate in political discussions so if you want none of it (for one reason or the other) then you'll never see it, nor be bothered by it.

Political topics should only be kept in that one sub-forum

I definitely hear what you're saying, I agree, there's a proven track-record for how it inevitably will turn out and how certain members act/react

Either it will work, or it won't. If it works, and I don't have to see it, I don't have a problem with it. If it blows up, at least I'm not the one who has to try to clean things up this time.
