Add optional boards

I've been throwing the idea around of having a Current Events subsection to discuss news around the world. Obviously this by nature gets a little political so I decided we make it an opt-in forum. You can see it and post in it only if you are actually interested in that. Otherwise, you can live oblivious to the inane comments that I'm sure you'll see in that sub-forum.

The sub-forum will be fairly strictly moderated for anything we'd consider disrespectful, intentional bait, or anything really outside of the realm of reasonable discussion.

If you're interested in trying it out, let me know. That is all.

I've been on other forums that do that, and there are a lot of people that definitely want/need to talk that stuff through. I'll say this, though. There have been members of our community that used to like and respect each other that now can't stand each other because we talked about politics. Those feelings toward other members don't stay in a dedicated sub-forum.

Also, even though people have a choice to stay out, sometimes it's hard to not be drawn to it, even when you don't want to.

I'm actually not saying you shouldn't do it. Just something to think about.

In general--not a good idea. Why most sites don't do it.

In particular, once you enable "Boss Hogg", it won't be pretty.

I’m not sure if you’ve made up your mind on this already or if you’re still contemplating it. Either way, it honestly doesn’t matter for me. That being said, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Woody made some excellent points. I’m just a member here and I don’t even post all that often, but I think you have a good thing going here. So far it appears everyone has treated each other with respect. I’m not saying that a hidden forum would ruin all of that, but I just don’t think it would do any good. I personally think political discussion is best left to private conversations. We have private messaging here and obviously there’s discord and things of that nature if people want to talk about those things. I just don’t think forums are the right place for that but that’s just my opinion.

Personally I believe political discussions in a democracy should be more public than private, but given the history here that’s why I think it’d be fine if it were private. I also think we’re so far advanced in this community I don’t think anybody is making any new friends or enemies having a hidden board

It also exists already and has posts in it and so far no one has been harmed so we’ll see how it goes. Obviously at this point we don’t need more problems, so it’ll get the axe if it even begins to look like it’ll cause problems
